“The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.” Deuteronomy 29:29

Recently a friend and I were talking about Heaven and discussing how the Bible does not really give us all the information we would like to have about what life will be like after death. Most of our conceptions of Heaven come from the songs we hear and sing about it. I am sure that the writers of these songs were inspired to write what they did. But the Lord in His Word has just given us a little insight into what heaven is like. There are some things that are secrets to Him.

This year I have been doing my daily Bible reading from the New Living Translation and I like the way this verse is rendered:

“The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instruction.” Deuteronomy 29:29 NLT

Moses was giving the children of Israel his last instructions before he would be taken from them. He told them that the Lord did not reveal everything to them, but that they were accountable for what he had revealed. As Moses repeated the laws and requirements that the Lord had given them, he made sure that they realized they had a responsibility to follow them fully.

The Lord has revealed so many things to us, the plan of salvation, and the way to be ready for heaven. We are accountable for the things he has revealed to us, that He has shown us in His Word. We know that if we obey His instructions, we are part of His body, and will spend eternity with Him. No matter what our concepts of Heaven are, the main thing is that we will be with Him.

Prayer: Jesus we thank you for the things you have revealed to us through your Word, and we look forward to spending eternity with you in the Heaven you have prepared.
