“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend”  (Proverbs 27:17 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).

I have always found this scripture to be intriguing.  So, today I’d like to explore the thought with you.

Mutual conversation with a friend brings light to many subjects.  My heart is warmed as we converse.  This proverb conveys both the pleasure and the advantage of good conversation.

One good way to sharpen your skills is to find a senior to talk with.  Their listening audience is getting smaller.  Listen to what they have to say.  You will leave with invaluable knowledge from a generation that learned the art of communication.

After studying, I realized that I needed to work on my sharpening skills so I can be a better listener and conversationalist.  I want to help my friends by sharpening them and not cutting them down.  I want to provoke them to love and to good works; to make one another wiser and better.

Prayer:  Lord, give me the right words to say to encourage my friends.  Your Word brings life to any situation.  Let the words of my mouth be acceptable in Your sight!  Amen.
