shepherd“And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.”  (Luke 2:20 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

Who doesn’t like to be the first to hear good news?  Reading the Christmas story brought joy and hope all over again to me.  The birth of Jesus was an exciting time for the nation of Israel.  And to think, a Savior came into the world so that we could have abundant life makes me rejoice too!

The shepherds were on-the-job tending their sheep when Heaven announced the birth of Jesus.  They were the first to hear the good news.  They may have been looked down on by most, but, not by the God of Glory!  He wanted to make sure they were the first to hear the good news.

The ruling dignitaries knew nothing about His birth until much later.

This fact speaks volumes to me about the very nature of God.  Every one of us are special and deserve His attention.

As soon as th shepherds heard they went looking for the Christ child.  He knew they would act quickly and come meet Him face to face.  The swelling emotion of their simple hearts caused them to glorify and praise God for what they had heard and seen.

Prayer:  At this time of year Your birth means so much to me. I’m so glad to know the good news and to have You as my Savior!
