“Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.” Psalm 89:15
As I read this verse, I was reminded of the old hymn we used to sing a lot in church, “Jesus Saves.” This hymn was written by Priscilla Owens, who lived from 1829 to 1907 in the City of Baltimore. She was a School teacher as well as a Sunday school teacher. Most of the hymns she wrote were for Sunday school children and this one was written for a Sunday school Mission anniversary. Most of her writings emphasized the fact that Jesus came to seek and save the lost.
“Jesus Saves.” The church I attended for many years had these words on the sign over the door, as did a lot of other churches. It was the message on a plaque sold to my dad by a young crippled man many years ago, that was the means of my dad giving his life to the Lord, thus resulting in our whole family finding faith.
We all have a story to tell, no matter who we are, or how much Bible we know. We have heard the joyful sound, “Jesus Saves,” and it is the message we should be proclaiming to the world around us.
Prayer: Jesus, I am so thankful that you still save, and that the message is still relevant to our world today.
