“But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.”  (Genesis 19:26 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

God told Lot to flee to mountains and warned him not to look back. For whatever reason, Lot’s wife did not take God’s command seriously. She looked back and was changed into a mass of rock salt, probably retaining the human figure (Adam Clarke’s Commentary).

Not much information is given as to what really happened. The account is short but must be seriously considered. The New Testament also records this statement, “Remember Lot’s Wife” (Luke 17:32).

I recently received a warning from the Highway Patrol. I was driving to a nursing home to visit a friend. The road was under construction and a flashing sign warned me to drive with extreme caution. Large traffic cones served as guides through the turns in the road. I hit one of the cones and knocked it off the road. A Highway Patrol officer noticed the incident and stopped me to ask if I was ok. He told me that swerving like I did could have been fatal. I told him I had already thanked God for looking after me. I was not speeding but I had become distracted. He wrote me a warning ticket for which I was thankful.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to realize the warnings that You give in Your Word are to be taken seriously. Speak to my heart and help me to obey the warnings You have put in Your Word. Amen!
