“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” Jeremiah 31:3

How great is God’s love?  We read the stories of the children of Israel, how God delivered them so many times and when they turned away from them, He was still merciful toward them and forgave them when they cried out to Him, and we wonder why He did not give up on them.   They were His chosen people and His love towards them never failed, even though they did not love Him as they should in return.

God’s love is unfailing.  We do not deserve His love, there is nothing we can do to make Him love us any more or any less.  We will never be worthy of His love, it is unchanging.  Jesus loved us so much that He was willing to die in our place, to provide a way that we could be saved from eternal punishment.  It is hard for us to comprehend such great love.

We can never repay Him for His love.  All He asks in return is that we trust Him, obey His Word, and be faithful to Him.  The more we comprehend His great love, the more we learn to love Him, and in turn let that love manifest itself in our relationship to others.

Prayer:  Lord, I do not deserve your love, but I am thankful that you have freely extended it to me.  Help me to love you more.
