fig-tree-900320_1280“And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever.  And presently the fig tree withered away.”  (Matthew 21:19 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible.)

Jesus was walking on a public road and saw a fig tree.  It was on common property and anyone might lawfully use its fruit. Because He is God and all knowing, He knew the true condition of the tree, but He acted according to the appearance of things.  Perhaps He did this to let His disciple know the seriousness of being hypocritcal.  So He said to it, “Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever.”

I have bought things in my lifetime that didn’t live up to how they were advertised.  I was disappointed and upset by the false claims.

Today, I’ve been thinking about so many who say they love the Lord, but find excuses to not be in His house on a regular basis.  My desire is to show the world by example what a fruitful Christian looks like.  I don’t want to be a false advertisement and disappoint my Lord!

Prayer:  Dear Lord, I pray for myself today.  I want to be a real and genuine Christian; one that doesn’t just look the part, but plays the part as well.  I want to practice what I preach.  One day soon You will be coming back for those who are ready and I want to be in that catching away!
