“This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.” Daniel 4:17

Over the last few weeks we have been in the middle of an election campaign.  Those seeking office have been making promises about a lot of things. With so much going on in our country, it is hard to know who to believe and who to support.  There were a lot of surprises when we woke up this morning.

This verse from Daniel was meant for King Belteshazzar, but it still is true in our world today.  God knows what is best for our country, He sees the bigger picture.  Everything that happens is part of His plan leading up to His coming again to rule the world.  The Scripture teaches us that He sets up rulers and puts down rulers.  We have a duty as citizens of our country to vote in our elections and try to choose who will be the best one to support.  But when it comes down to the outcome, God determines that.

Now that the election is over, whether we agree with the party that has been selected to lead our country or not, our duty is to pray for them and to do our best to be good citizens.  We must trust that the Lord knows exactly what is happening, and we know that all things work together for good for those who love the Lord.  He is in complete control.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, we pray that you will help us to be good citizens of our country, abiding by its laws and praying for our leaders.
