Ephesians 5:1-2 ESV

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

I have a young daughter who used to love to mimic people. If you laughed, she would laugh. If you made a silly face, she would make a silly face. If you clapped, she clapped. It was quite comical to watch her as she learned new things just by watching others.

We like to follow.

Yes, there are people with leadership qualities, but everyone follows the example of someone else. It’s basic human nature, children do what children see. It’s good to have a role model and someone that you look up to, but only if they want the best for you and want to see you succeed.

While it’s good and important even to have earthly mentors, the best person for us to imitate is Jesus. Dictionary.com tells us that to imitate is to “to follow or endeavor to follow as a model or example. to mimic; impersonate. to make a copy of; reproduce closely.to have or assume the appearance of; simulate; resemble.

I want my life to resemble that of the life of Jesus. I want people to see His qualities in me, so that I resemble Him. I want to stand for what He stood for. I want to love the way He loves.

Make the decision to imitate the life of Jesus today, and watch and see what happens because of doing so!

Prayer: Jesus, I have all the examples I need to know how to properly imitate Your life. They are found in Your word and I pray you help me to apply them today.
