“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6 from the NIV of the Holy Bible)

I was recently invited to a dinner in a colleagues home. Upon arrival, I realized that there were several people there I didn’t know. I was immediately drawn to a particular girl and vowed that by the end of the night, I would invite her to come to church with me. I kept silently praying that the opportunity would arise. Little did I know, the opportunity would in fact arise.  Unfortunately, things do not always happen the way that we plan.  When we finally sat around the dinner table, in front of everybody, she asked what church I attended. When I told her, she (quite boldly) said, “Oh I hate that church. Way too many rules”. How do you recover from that? As the rest of the dinner crowd stared in disbelief, I brushed the comment off, and continued eating.

Looking back to the dinner party, there were probably lots of different things I could have said to her. Brushing the comment off because I felt uncomfortable maybe wasn’t the right thing to do, but I got nervous.  Confrontation has never been my strong point, but something that I personally need to work on.  Why is it that this girl could shut me up just by being a little controversial? I pray that as Christians, we never allow other people to dictate how we live our lives.  As the end times approach, more than ever we must stand our ground and be proud of what we believe in. With His help, we can reach this world like never before!

Prayer:  Lord, I pray for boldness today.  I am tired of this world being able to do and say whatever it is that they want.  We have the best thing there is to offer, and it’s time that people hear it. In Jesus name, amen!
