The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. But some people have missed this whole point. (1 Timothy 1:5-6, NLT)

Chapter one of Timothy does not waste any time before getting into what I feel are very serious issues that we have today. Somewhere along the way I believe that we have missed the point. Of course we need doctrine in our lives, but if we spend all of our time analyzing religious issues we can lose sight of what we are here for. I genuinely cannot handle confrontation and I do not generally struggle with a love for debate so while I may not struggle with this as much, I know it’s out there.

Think about your life today. Is more of your time spent loving people and trying to lead them to Him, or do you spend more time discussing rules and religion? In Matthew, the Lord gives us two commandments. Firstly, we must love the Lord with all of our heart. Second, we must love people. If we choose to first love people, God will always open doors for us to show them His love.

Prayer: Jesus, help us to show others your love by our actions. Draw people to you through us. In Jesus name, amen.
