“But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.”  (Deuteronomy 3:28 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)

Supporting roles are not just used in the theatrical world but are necessary for the work of God.  The wonderful saints of God who are supporting the church and their pastor are to be commended for their faithfulness.

Joshua was named as Moses’s successor.  Roles had reversed and Moses was now in a supporting role.  God was speaking to Moses and asking him to encourage Joshua and strengthen him.  He was facing the overwhelming responsibility of leading the Children of Israel into the Promised Land and he needed to hear a word of encouragement to continue the work he was called to do.  Joshua had big shoes to fill.  Joshua knew he was not capable without God and the help of others.  Moses knew from experience the power of encouragement.

A few months back the Lord prompted me to call Kathy, a pastor’s wife.  I left her a simple message saying I was praying for her.  I talked with her this week and she told me when I called everything was going well.  Within a few weeks, she knew why God laid her on my heart.  She wanted to thank me for calling. It let her know that God was with her and she didn’t have to worry because someone was praying for her.

Help your leaders by standing beside them.  Compliment them for their preaching and leading your family in truth.

Prayer:  Today Lord, we pray especially for our Godly leaders.  We live in treacherous times when the forces of evil are opposing us on every side.  I pray for every pastor and his wife that they would be encouraged and strengthened with the courage to keep on keeping on.
