“And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;” II Peter 1:6.

Godliness is a significant term in the Christian faith. While the expression also refers to the divinity of God, godliness in the Bible is mainly used to describe a positive way of life influenced by God, and inspired reflection in the tenets of the Christian faith.

Our greatest desire should be to be more like Jesus. He set us an example during His time here on earth. He was God manifest in flesh, but He still was tempted in all points the same as we are. He overcame all the temptations that Satan brought before Him, thus showing us that it was possible to live above sin.

Jesus manifested love to all that He encountered, no matter who they were. He resonated peace during turmoil and strife. He was not afraid to call sin what it was, but He proved by His actions that he hated the sin, not the sinner. He was compassionate and went about doing good to all.

Our goal as a Christian should be to live so that those who encounter us will see Jesus manifested. Roger Bennett used to sing “When the World looks at me, do they see Jesus?” One of the biggest tests of godliness, is our love and concern for others.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to live in such a way, that others will see how you can change a life of one who gives themselves to you, and that they too will desire to know you.
