“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I Thessalonians 5:18

One morning I was changing the sheets on my bed and as I was tucking the fitted sheet under the mattress, I began to think of how we used to only have flat sheets on our beds. No matter how carefully we tucked them in as we made the bed, we would often wake up in the night to find them pulled out and we were lying on the mattress. At home I shared the bed with two sisters, so you can imagine there was a lot of turning and twisting during the night, causing the bedding to get shifted around.

So, I thanked the Lord for fitted sheets, and for so many little things in our lives that we take for granted. Just look around your home and think about all the things you have that make your day easier. I thank the Lord for my electric tea kettle that I boil water in to make my morning cup of tea. I am thankful for my toaster. I remember as a child sticking a fork in a piece of bread and toasting it over the wood stove. If it happened to get too close to the top of the stove, it was charred black. But now we have an electric toaster that we can put a slice of bread in and set it for whatever colour we wish. Then, we can take the butter or margarine from the refrigerator, along with some jam and the milk for our tea. I remember growing up, we did not have a refrigerator. I am sure there are many other things we could talk about, but these are just a few of the little things we are blessed with.

So, take a few minutes today, and look around your home. How many little things can you find that make life pleasant? Take some time to thank the Lord for them, and you will feel good about it.

Prayer: Jesus, we know you have given us many great things, but help us not to forget to give you thanks for the little things you have provided.
