Psalms 20:7

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.”

Chariot, Horse, Roman, Race, Reenactment, History

Oftentimes when we read scripture like the one written above, we brush it off and convince ourselves that it doesn’t apply to us. I mean, who actually owns a horse and chariot anymore? But back in Bible days, horses and chariots were what carried military men into battle. The design had to be flawless, and needed to be used as a weapon and also as protection.

Ephesians 6:12 lets us know that we are in spiritual warfare, and daily we go into battle for our families, friends and for our churches – so what, or who, do we trust in when the battle begins? While it may not literally be horses and chariots, it could be anything from finances, personal talent and abilities, or friendships. While none of these things in and of themselves are wrong, trusting in them to get you through the day to day experiences of life, is.

Truly our hope and trust can only be in God, the one who knows the end from the beginning.

Prayer

Lord, I pray and ask that you would reveal to me today if I am trusting in anything or anyone besides You. Help me to always put You first, and to put all of my trust in You alone.
