“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

I was reading this second chapter of Ephesians in my devotionals this morning and it spoke to my heart in a new way.  The New Living Translation reads:

“God saved you by his grace when you believed.  And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.  Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”

I am so thankful that the Lord saved me when I was just a child.  Even though I was not involved in a lot of sinful things, I was still a sinner in need of salvation.  There was nothing good in me, it was only the grace of God that brought salvation to our family.  In love and mercy, He reached down to my father, delivered him from sin, and made a way that we could learn of His great love.  None of us can take any credit for this great gift that the Lord has bestowed upon us.  We have nothing to boast about.  All that we are, all that we will ever be, is only by the grace of God.  He gets all the credit.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for your mercy and your grace, that brought salvation to our house.  You are worthy all the praise and glory and we give you thanks today for your great gift.
