“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst” (John 6:35 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).
The Weight Watcher program has a list of what they call “power foods.” The list includes foods that are satisfying and nutritional to the body. Carbohydrates are tasty but don’t satisfy for long. Proteins are necessary for our daily diet.
God’s Word is food that will satisfy the soul. There is no need that God cannot fill. He satisfies those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Life and peace for the soul are found in Him alone.
While I was shopping this week, I heard the cries of a hungry baby. I noticed that Dad was trying to pacify the child as Mom shopped. Finally, the father managed to ease a bottle in the baby’s mouth and the cries ceased.
Human beings get hungry and thirsty after a short period of time without food. Our stomachs growl to let us know it’s time to eat. When your soul cries out for nourishment, remember only Jesus satisfies!
Pray: Today my strength is waning. I need to be fed by You, Lord. Nothing else gives me strength like Your Word.
“Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” (Romans 14:19 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible)
Several years ago the ladies in our state began an intentional effort to encourage one another. The need to be uplifted is greater than it has ever been. I named it, “Operation Uplift.”
The object of our devotional verse was to persuade the church at Rome to not insist on their own perspective in matters of disagreement. The word “edify” means to build up. We need to purpose in our hearts that we are going to only uplift others as we build up the Kingdom of God. We do that through encouragement.
Encouragement is what keeps us all going. The older I get the more I appreciate the cards, texts, kind words and phone calls of someone who thought of me. It’s one of the simplest ways to lift sagging spirits.
Join Operation Uplift and encourage someone today. It doesn’t take a lot to do that. Even a smile is encouraging. We see enough sad faces on a daily basis to discourage us. Don’t be part of the demolition team!
Prayer: Lord, we pray for all those who are struggling. Let me be one to edify or build up and not tear down. The family of God is so wonderful! You have called me to edify them.
“The humble will see their God at work and be glad. Let all who seek God’s help live in joy.” (Psalm 69:32 in the New Living Translation of the Holy Bible)
Where you live will have a profound effect on how you perceive things. I’m not talking about your physical house, but your spiritual house. Our bodies are temples of God and we can live in joy when we have Him dwelling on the inside!
It worries me when I see people who don’t have the joy of the Lord. Everything is tainted without His joy. Their outlook on life is affected when the wonderful ingredient of joy is lacking.
Just yesterday someone asked me what was wrong with a lady who used to come to church. She had a conversation on the phone with her and joy is now lacking even in her voice.
We make indelible impressions on everyone we meet. When God is at work in your life you have no reason to go around looking sad. He makes us glad!
Prayer: Lord, today I seek Your help to live in joy! For the joy of the Lord is my strength even when things are going wrong I can draw on Your strength and live in joy.
