“For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.” Isaiah 41:13

My devotional book this morning was based on this scripture and what the author had written seemed very pertinent to what we are going through at this time. She said that in time of change we must learn to let go of some things and put them in the hands of the Lord.

Our loved ones. If you are like me, you have family in different parts of the country that you are concerned about. We keep in touch with them and trust that they are doing everything they can to stay safe. We pray for them every day, commit them to the Lord, and trust Him to keep them in His hands. When we have loved ones that are not serving the Lord, we pray that somehow what is going on in our country will cause them to seek His face.
Our possessions. Our hearts go out to all the people that have lost their jobs at this time. There will be many small businesses that probably will not make it through this crisis. We need to pray for them. I have been praying for some of our smaller church congregations who will not have the income they need at this time. Those of us who have not been affected by unemployment and lack of income, need to let the Lord lead us as to how we can help someone else. As God has blessed us, let us bless others.
Our control. Most of all we must realize that we do not have control over what is happening. God is in control, and only He knows what the result of this will be. Whether it lasts for a few weeks or months, we can rest in Him.

An old chorus that we used to sing has been running through my mind as I was preparing this. “Let go and let God have His wonderful way, let go and let God have His way. Your sorrows will vanish, your night turn today, let go and let God have His way.”

Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.” As I meditated on this, I pictured Jesus holding me by His hand, and His other hand reaching out to each of you. He will never let go. At this time, we cannot join hands with our brothers and sisters, but as we hold His hand, and He holds theirs, we are bound together, and we are secure in Him. As we pray for one another, we can be strengthened and encouraged.

Prayer: Jesus, help us to hold fast to your hand, and let go of everything that would hinder us trusting in you. By your grace, we will come through this testing time victorious.
