I use to work at a shoe store when I was a teenager; it was the best job. I would get fifty percent off of stock and would still get the discount on inventory that was on sale. Let’s just say I had a lot of shoes—over fifty pair easily.

One day I was helping a mother choose a running shoe for her little boy. She found the perfect pair and as they were on their way downstairs to the cash register, her son slipped and fell. Without hesitation I ran to help him and in the process I got his blood on my hands from his injury. The situation was under control and I immediately walked to the sink to wash my hands. As I stood at the mirror I could feel the Lord prompting me to look down at my hands and all I could think about was the scripture in Ezekiel 33:6:

“But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’”

That day, at the shoe store, I began to understand the spiritual implications of some of my decisions. That day, my journey of understanding that one of the purposes in my life is to share the gospel to a world that desperately needs God.

Showing The Love of God

I gave my life to the Lord as a teenager and it was a journey, to say the least, to become faithful to my Savior. Despite my shortcomings, God gave me grace as many times I needed. My dad is the most incredible Bible study teacher I know and when I was grounded (which was a lot), he would make me attend his Bible studies. I witnessed his passion for lost souls first hand as he would pour out his heart teaching about the love of God. It was in those moments when something was birthed in my spirit—I too desired to herald a warning that sin leads to death, but the gift of God is eternal life. I wanted people to know that there is a God who loves them so much that He gave His life for them.

Today, that is still my greatest desire. I want to share the gospel of Jesus with a hurting, broken, and lost world. I am not perfect, I know that I have missed many opportunities to share the Word of God with people, but I also know that today is a new day and that He will lead me to people who are hungry.

The Bible says that I am a watchman, well watchwoman, over souls.  I am here to tell people about the love of their Savior and to share the gospel of Jesus. I encourage you to demonstrate the love of God to someone today. Demonstrate kindness and grace to someone who, in your opinion, does not deserve them, after all that’s what Jesus does for us. And, pray, “Lord, help me be a responsible watchman. Teach me how to love like You love.
