“Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean. Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.” Isaiah 52:1-2

How quickly dust accumulates in our homes if we let it. My husband was retired before me and so he did the housework for a few years. He did not like dusting, so his solution was to pack away things that he considered dust collectors. The things that were valued were considered worthy of being kept dust free.

We are living in the closing days of time, and the scripture in Isaiah is a good admonishment for us to look at our lives and shake the dust off the things we value. It is time to make sure that we are wearing the beautiful garments that the Lord has provided, and keeping the pure and clean, ready for His coming.

The Word of God is important and should have a prominent place in our homes and in our lives. Whether you read from a physical copy of the Bible or from a tablet or phone, give it priority. We must never neglect our daily time of reading and meditation on His Word.

Prayer is so essential in our lives. Let us not get careless and let other things crowd out our daily talk with the Lord. As we bring our needs and petitions to Him and listen to His voice, our faith grows stronger.

And then there is Praise. The Lord has done so much for us, and often we forget to thank Him for His blessings. We need to get rid of the dust of ungratefulness that can hinder our worship and praise.

As we get out the dust cloths of the Word of God, prayer, and praise and use them on our spiritual house, things change, and we feel clean and fresh. This is not something that we do once and forget about it; it is a regular commitment.

Read Colossians Chapter 3, and especially consider the following verses:

Col 3:15-16 “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

Prayer: Jesus, you know our hearts and we ask you to turn the searchlight of your love on us today, show us where dust has collected, and help us to take the necessary steps to change.
