A song our church loves to sing is, “Waymaker.” A few weeks ago I was humming it in my home and I thought to myself, God is also a “Wait Maker.” God will purposefully put us through a waiting period to either:

1.) teach us patience,
2.) prepare us for growth,
3.) show His glory, or
4.) for reasons unknown.

“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in
God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” Psalm 62:5-8,

Think of a butterfly.

If you try to rush the process of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, you risk killing it. In the middle stages of metamorphosis, the caterpillar has turned into goop (fascinating), and if you tore open the chrysalis, it would ooze out (gross).

From the outside looking in, it may seem like nothing is happening, but there is a transformational process taking place, and that caterpillar will never be the same. But first, it enters a waiting room, in the form of a cocoon.

The Darkness of A Cocoon

Have you ever been in your own version of a cocoon? It is as though darkness encompasses you as you grow weary while waiting on an answer from God? Or, are you tired of an ongoing struggle?

When you are in this place, remind yourself that God is your defense, your salvation, your strength, and your refuge. He will be with you in the darkness of your situation and He will transform you.

When the butterfly has completely developed, it will begin to break from its exterior shell. You have to let the butterfly break free and emerge on its own because with every push, little or big; it becomes stronger. The more resistance it feels, the more blood begins to flow to its wings, giving the butterfly the power to eradicate the enclosure of its chrysalis, liberating itself to fly.

Without realizing it right now, you are in a stage of metamorphosis: growing, changing, and preparing for the next level. You will never be the same. Sometimes God will put resistance in your path on purpose. Trust the process of growth and wait on the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that you will make me into Your image. Change me from the inside out. Help me grow. I desire to go to the next level, so, help me trust the process of the season I am in and help me wait on You.

Awesome timely message. May the Lord bless you for this reminder. My soul wait upon your maker!

God has me in a waiting pattern! At first, it was disturbing. The meaning of my life translated into “oozing goop”; I felt I was no where, and there was no purpose or power to my life! Slowly, God is convincing me of what my role is in the body of Christ! There is no formal title, just doing how God directs as I relate to others in and outside the Body of Christ!

    • I have been there, Allison, it seems like one wait period after another. I am praying a shift will come to your life soon. There is power in the process, sis.

I am going through this exactly in this moment. Thank you for the encouragement. It’s hard sometimes to wait and to try to understand it all.
I just discovered this devotional and it is very encouraging and well written.

    God bless <3
