“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
Amazing love, how can it be
That you, my king, would die for me?
Amazing love. I know it’s true.
And it’s my joy to honour you
In all I do, I honor you.
The word love has lost its true meaning in our world today. How often do we hear the word applied to food, possessions, or other material things? In the celebrity world, people are in love with someone today and someone else the next.
But the love that Jesus manifested when He left the throne of heaven and took on human flesh to bring redemption has a much greater meaning. His love is:
- Unmerited – we did nothing to earn it. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
- Unconditional – John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
- Unchanging – Jeremiah 31:3 “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”
- Unlimited – Revelation 22:13 “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”
Amazing love, love beyond human comprehension, caused Jesus to come to earth. It was love that held Him to the cross, bearing our sins so that we might go free. When we fully grasp the greatness of His love, it will change our lives and give us a desire to honour Him in all we do.
Thought for Today: How can I share the amazing love of Jesus with others today?
