“Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalm 106:1

I love You, Lord

Oh, Your mercy never fails me!

And all my days, I’ve been held in Your hands.

From the moment that I wake up

Until I lay my head

Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God.

Mercy is described as compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.

  • We did not deserve His mercy. 1Peter 2:10 “Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
  • God’s mercy never fails. Psalm 103:17-18 “But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children; To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.”
  • We cannot earn His mercy. Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”
  • Mercy is offered freely to all who desire it. Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

Because we are human, we fail and make mistakes. We say and do things that are not pleasing to the Lord. But how great it is to know that when we do fail, we can come to Him and receive forgiveness because of His amazing mercy.

Thought for Today: God has shown me mercy; I need to show mercy to others.
