Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,

Just to take Him at His Word;

Just to rest upon His promise,

Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”

The Scripture in Matthew presents an invitation and a promise. If we wish to obtain the promise, we must accept the invitation. Jesus offers rest to all who will believe and obey Him.

His Promises of rest from:

  • The weight of sin. I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
  • Daily anxiety. I Peter  5:7 “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
  • Care and worry. Hebrews 4:9-10 “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.”
  • Psalm 37:7 “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.”
  • Fear of death. Revelation 14:13 “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”

We live in a busy world. Trouble and strife abound. How wonderful it is that we can find perfect rest in the Lord Jesus Christ. He has a plan and a purpose for our lives and will keep us every moment and every day.

Thought For Today: Jesus offers amazing rest. No matter what this day holds, I will rest in Him.
