“And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.” (Matthew 14:23) During Jesus’ time on earth, He had many people following Him. They wanted to hear what He had to say and to…
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18) In Luke 17:12-19, Jesus was making his way into the city where ten lepers lived. When they saw Jesus, they cried out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” The highly…
I listened to my friend speak these words of faith, “Giving to God is a no-risk zone. We may think we are giving so much that it feels like a risk, but it never is.” I agreed heartily, and thought, “Yes, amen!” That day I didn’t have any worries. With…
Did you hear about the Great North American Eclipse in August 2017? I know it sounds simple – the moon crossed in front of the sun – but it was a very exciting day. I avoided the tourists by staying home to experience 99% of a total eclipse. I had…
When Howard Rutledge was a little boy in Sunday School, he never imagined that the memory verses he learned would one day be vital to his survival. He grew up and became a military pilot, married, and had a family. He never renounced God, but he began to enjoy life…
I heard of a man who became incredibly strong not by lifting weights or exercising, but by standing still. I thought that sounded impossible, but my classmates who met him during a research project assured me that he was real. He practiced a unique form of a martial art, with…
Life Reference: Genesis 1:27, 5:3; Luke 20:19-26 Focus Verse: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself…
“And he knew it, and said, It is my son’s coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces” (Genesis 37:33 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).
We’ve all been there. When we contemplate the worst case scenario and a feeling of dread overwhelms us. At least once a month I get caught in a serious case of worrying because my husband is not home as promptly as I think he should be. I can’t reach him on his cell phone and I start jumping to conclusions of what might have happened. Reading our devotional verse made me downright angry with Joseph’s brothers because of the grief they caused their father. Jacob surmised what could have happened to Joseph when he saw the bloody coat. Don’t jump to conclusions when it comes to your children. Reading the story of Joseph’s life, we understand how God protected and promoted him despite all odds. This gives me hope that God has everything in His control!
Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray for all the parents who are genuinely concerned about their children. May this story serve as a reminder not to give up even though the situation looks hopeless. Only God knows how many more chapters are ahead.

“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:” (1 John 5:14 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible).
The word confidence is used 38 times throughout the Bible and usually refers to our confidence in God. Confidence is built on what He has done for us in the past. Trust is based upon the relationship we have with God.
We’re all undeserving yet He loves us. We’re His children and He wants the best for us. Go ahead and ask Him anything! He will listen to your requests.
Prayer: Lord, I thank You for Your faithfulness! I am confident that You hear me when I come with my requests. Today I’m struggling with a situation I can’t handle, but I bring my petition to You knowing You will see me through! Amen.
