“For with God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:37, NKJV)
Have you ever prayed for the seemingly impossible? Or did the impossibility of your need keep you from praying? It doesn’t have to. When we ask in faith, nothing is impossible with God. James 1:6 tells us:
“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.” (NKJV)
Possibilities with God
Let’s consider a few impossibilities that God turned into realities.
- God created everything out of nothing. (Genesis 1)
- Ninety-year-old infertile Sarah gave birth to a healthy baby boy. (Genesis 21)
- The sun and the moon stood still. (Joshua 10)
- The sun moved backward ten steps on the sundial. (Isaiah 38)
- Three men walked out of a fiery furnace with no burns on their body. (Daniel 3)
- Lazarus was raised from the dead (John 11). Many other instances are also recorded.
If there are any limitations on what God can do, it is because of our lack of faith—not His inability. The Lord doesn’t mind when we seek Him for the difficult or the impossible. Impossible isn’t even in His vocabulary. He invites us to be bold with our prayers.
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16, NKJV)
Bold Faith
Matthew 15:21-28 tells of an interesting encounter between Jesus and a non-Jewish woman who sought deliverance for her daughter. When she cried out to Him, Jesus didn’t even answer her, and His disciples wanted to send her away.
Finally, the Lord responded, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” This was not the response she sought. She could have felt defeated and quietly slipped out of His sight. Instead, she worshiped Him and begged for His help. Jesus again responded, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
But the woman boldly persisted, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
At this point, I wonder if Jesus smiled at her answer. She had demonstrated both boldness and strong faith.
Finally, she heard the response she needed.
Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour. (Verse 28, NKJV)
Would we have boldly persisted as this woman did? Or would we have walked away dejected and disbelieving? Her boldness mixed with her faith brought the help she needed. Her daughter was delivered of the unclean spirit.
A.W. Tozer, a 20th Century minister and author, stated:
“God is looking for those with whom He can do the impossible. What a pity that we plan only the things that we can do by ourselves.” (Quoted from A Man of God.)
What impossible situation are you struggling with today? Are you trying to handle it on your own? Or are you willing to boldly bring it to the Lord and surrender the situation to Him? God hears your prayers and is willing to perform the impossible on your behalf.
Pray! Pray boldly. Pray fervently. Pray with faith.
“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16, NKJV)
