“Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling.” I Samuel 25:29 KJV

“Even when you are chased by those who seek to kill you, your life is safe in the care of the Lord your God, secure in his treasure pouch!” NLT

When I was a child, my grandfather lived with us. When he passed away, my mother received his last Old Age Assistance cheque and placed it on a shelf. When she was ready to cash it, she searched everywhere and could not find it. My younger sister had a little purse that she carried around with her, her treasure pouch, and one day Mother heard her talking about “my monies.” Somehow, she had found the cheque and a pair of scissors, cut the cheque into small pieces, and put them in her purse. Mother had to piece it all together and return it to the Government to have it replaced.

I do not have time to tell the whole story of Nabal, but David was on his way to kill him when his wife Abigail intercepted and reminded him of who he was and how the God who had protected him thus far would not want him to tarnish his record, but let God take care of his enemies.

We know that David trusted God and served Him with all his heart. Psalm 23 and many other Psalms that David wrote, speak of His close relationship with the Lord.

Like David, we too can be secure in God’s Treasure Pouch. Think of all the blessings that we have in Him:

  • Rest – Matthew 11:28
  • Peace – John 14:27
  • Freedom – John 8:32,36
  • Forgiveness – I John 1:9
  • Healing – Isaiah 53:5
  • Hope – Romans 15:13
  • Comfort – II Corinthians 1:3
  • Joy – I Peter 1:8

These are only a few of the blessings and treasures that the Lord gives us. Whether we want to use the words of the King James Version “bound in the bundle of life with the Lord,” or the New Living “secure in His treasure pouch,” all we need can be found in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord Jesus, that your treasure pouch is full of everything we need to sustain life, and as your children we have access to it every day. Help us to appreciate the blessings you bestow upon us.
