And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness… So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them, Genesis 1:26-27.
We are created in the image and likeness of God. These words have two very different meanings.
- Image is displaying God’s glory; it is an outward representation of who God is and when people look at us, they should know that we are His ambassadors. People will see our countenance and observe how gracious we are to others.
- Likeness is displaying God’s characteristics; it is an inward representation of God’s character in our lives. When people talk with us, communicate with us, and observe how we treat one another, then they should hear and feel the character of God displayed in our life.
We are to be image bearers of God.
There is eternal influence when we walk in our created calling as women of God. We need to recognize the power we have being image bearers of God and to seek after being the true body of Christ as a united front.
In God’s design, He didn’t create us to bear His image in an identical way, but He created us with various aspects of His personality and unique traits of His character. When we become the true body of Christ; His hands and feet, His mouth, and His heart, then we can demonstrate His pure image; externally and internally.
I want people to see the glory of God in me. God can use you to display His likeness by displaying love to a broken world. And, He can use you to extend mercy by exhibiting His characteristics.
Ladies, you represent the same church that Jesus said, “the gates of hell shall not prevail against MY CHURCH.” God has given you power and authority to represent His image today. You can walk into this world with grace and truth, while also walking in this world with jurisdiction to pull down spiritual strongholds.
You have influence. You represent the church to your children, to your neighborhood, and to your workplace.
Do not be blinded by what the world expects you to be today; the world expects you to be tolerant, to back down, to be quiet, and to hold your peace like a good little Christian. But, we will not be silent and we will not sit by as we watch a worldly agenda terrorize our homes, our children, our family, and our churches.
I want to defend the church.
You are an image bearer of God. When you walk in your God-given calling, then God will use you to do amazing things and display His image and likeness.
Unity is not the sameness of persons, but sameness of purpose. Married, single, natural mother, spiritual mother, young, or old, it does not matter, you do not have to have the same story. You just need to be unified with God’s purpose for your life.
Let us go into the world and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ who is the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15).
We have a high calling from God to bear His image and likeness. Today, let us walk in that high calling.
