“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” I Peter 5:7

Merriam-Webster Dictionary describes “careless” as being untroubled, indifferent, unconcerned, negligent, or slovenly.

In most cases, we use the word careless to describe someone who makes decisions without thinking about the consequences, someone who takes unnecessary risks, or someone who does not take care of what they have.

But let us consider that first word in the definition – “untroubled.”  Then we can re-write the verse above as “Live careless (untroubled) in the care of God.” The New Living Translation reads: “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.”

Have you ever been in a place where you felt that nobody cared about you? You felt all alone with no hope of your life getting any better. The enemy of our souls would like to make us believe these lies. But Someone does care, God cares. He knows exactly what you are going through and is just waiting for you to call on His Name and give the burdens to Him.

Look at Matthew 6:31-34 “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

The farmer sows his seed and then waits patiently for the harvest. He does not lie sleepless through the night worrying about it. So, the Lord tells us not to be anxious about our needs. He knows what we need for our body, soul, mind, and spirit. He gave us life and He will maintain it. We can lay our heads on the pillow at night and rest peacefully, knowing that He never sleeps. When we obey the instruction in Verse 33, we can claim the promise. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Whatever load you are carrying, give it to the Lord today and live careless in Him.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for all your promises to meet our needs. Help us to give all our cares, our worries, and our problems to you, and trust you to sustain us.
