“A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.” Ecclesiastes 10:2 KJV

“A wise person chooses the right road, a fool takes the wrong one.” NLT

While praying about what to write this month, the Lord keeps impressing the word “choices” upon my mind. There are so many stories in the Bible of people making choices – some good and some bad. As we look at their stories, the situations they faced, and the decisions they made, I hope that we can learn some lessons from them.

A great American poet, Robert Frost, in his poem “The Road Not Taken” included the following:

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.”

Life is filled with choices. Each one we make has far-reaching results and consequences that affect our lives and the lives of others.

God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They were free to partake of every tree except one. We ask ourselves the question, “Why did Eve even go near that tree?” Surely, she had all the fruit she could eat without even looking at that one. When the serpent began speaking to her, instead of running away, she listened to his voice, began to desire the fruit, and eventually made the wrong choice. She disobeyed what God had said and then convinced Adam to partake of the fruit as well. Their innocence was gone, and they hid from God when He came for His daily visit.

The choice Eve made, caused her to lose her beautiful home and all that it entailed. God cursed the ground so that now they would have to labour for their food.

The Lord told Eve “I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.” Genesis 3:16

We all wish that Eve had made a different choice. But maybe there have been times in our lives, when we have come to a place of decision, and made the wrong choice. We are all human, and temptation comes to us all. But Jesus is always there to guide us and help us to choose the right way.

I Corinthians 10:13. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we are so thankful that even though Adam and Eve failed and brought sin into this world, You came and gave your life for us so that we could have our sins forgiven. Help us to let your Spirit direct us to make the right choices in life.
