“God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. Therefore, with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.” Isaiah 12:2-3

I have been asking myself the question, “Do I love the Lord for all the blessings He bestows upon me, or do I love Him for Who He is?”

I am thankful for the blessings and for the way that Jesus provides my every need. This morning, as I was making my bed, I thanked the Lord for it and for all the blessings He has provided. I also thanked Him for the peace that He gives me as I lay my head on the pillow each night, knowing that He is watching over me until morning.

As I check my closet, I realize how blessed I am to have clothes to choose from, no matter what the weather. I am thankful that I can go to my kitchen, check my cupboards and refrigerator, and find the food I need for the day.

I am thankful I have children who love and appreciate me and are always there for me. I am thankful for my church family and the fellowship and friendship we share.

All of these are things for which we should be grateful. But if our love for the Lord is only because of these blessings, we are missing something.

Luke 12:15 “For a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”

I want Jesus to be more to me than the provider of all the good things in life. I love and serve Him because He is: “ Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6. He is my Saviour, my Friend, my Counselor, my Peace, my Hope, and my Deliverer. As Isaiah said in our topic scripture, when Jehovah is our strength and song, we find joy in our salvation.

Join me this week as we look at examples in the Bible of people who chose to love God “even if” they faced difficulties, and others who chose to walk away when the way became hard.

Thought For Today:  Lord, help me to love You because of Who You are.
