Did you ever breeze over the ending of the Lord’s Prayer? I have. The words are so poetic, they just roll off the tongue. We’ve heard it preached and sung, been impressed as we’ve heard it quoted eloquently, and haven’t all our hearts melted as we’ve heard little children mispronounce those words in sweet little voices? “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever” (Matthew 6:13b). But did you ever stop to truly consider these words? Thine is the kingdom. This kingdom of God is not a democracy. It’s a monarchy and I’m not the monarch.…

“Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart” (Psalm 37:4). Oh how we love this verse! It is probably one of the most quoted verses in the Bible. We all love the idea of God giving us our heart’s desire; but as…

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding,” (Proverbs 3:5, Holy Bible, New Living Translation). Some modernists have become so entangled in the independent do-it-yourself mode that it’s encroached into Christianity. While self-sufficiency may be an option for wallpapering a home or maintaining a yard, the writer of Proverbs does not recommend it for heart maintenance. His instruction is total dependence on the Lord.
Prayer: Lord, in my struggle for self-sufficiency, I try to work things out alone before I talk it over with You. Teach me to trust completely in You. Amen.

We are all at different stages in our walk with God. We are at different levels of maturity regarding our understanding of God’s Word and His purpose for our lives.  Some have made a greater commitment to allow God to use them to further His kingdom. We are running this race together, but we are all running at a different pace. We didn’t all begin at the same time. We encounter obstacles at different times. Some are better conditioned to run their race because victory in past circumstances has increased their spiritual stamina. It’s common to feel frustration when we compare ourselves with others. We…

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2 (KJV) On a cold winter day I pulled into a snow packed Walmart parking lot. I drove the aisles looking for the closest parking spot. I checked the cars around me as I pulled into a spot and went inside. After finishing my trip, I headed back out into the cold. When I found my car I laughed at how horribly I had parked. I could now…

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10) It was a busy Saturday filled with household chores and lots of errands. Amidst all of our running from place to place, we stopped in a dryer repair shop. My dryer had been broken for about a month. My wonderful husband had bought a part and followed a DIY YouTube tutorial, but after replacing the part we thought it needed, it was still out of commission. Just imagine the piles of laundry that could accumulated in a month and multiply by 10! This…
