He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. Isaiah 53:3-4 This past week I have lost an aunt and my grandfather within the span of 24 hours of one another. Grief has a way of reminding you of what you are losing, but in rare moments, it also can remind us of what we…

We are all at different stages in our walk with God. We are at different levels of maturity regarding our understanding of God’s Word and His purpose for our lives.  Some have made a greater commitment to allow God to use them to further His kingdom. We are running this race together, but we are all running at a different pace. We didn’t all begin at the same time. We encounter obstacles at different times. Some are better conditioned to run their race because victory in past circumstances has increased their spiritual stamina. It’s common to feel frustration when we compare ourselves with others. We…

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2 (KJV) On a cold winter day I pulled into a snow packed Walmart parking lot. When I found my car I laughed at how horribly I had parked. I could now…

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10) It was a busy Saturday filled with household chores and lots of errands. Amidst all of our running from place to place, we stopped in a dryer repair shop. My dryer had been broken for about a month. My wonderful husband had bought a part and followed a DIY YouTube tutorial, but after replacing the part we thought it needed, it was still out of commission. Just imagine the piles of laundry that could accumulated in a month and multiply by 10! This…

Jesus would have been a great Bible quizzer. He often repeated the words of Scripture. In fact, three of the gospel writers recorded Jesus referencing the same Old Testament passage, “Mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.” In the past, I’ve read and even spoken these words of Isaiah without realizing the significance of their original context. Prior to their declaration, the Lord disclosed His intention to do something that had previously been forbidden. He would allow eunuchs (“blemished” people) and strangers (non-Jews) the opportunity to worship among His people. With beautiful language the prophet…
