It’s finally spring!
There’s something powerful about this season, especially the spring equinox, when day and night are held in perfect balance. It marks a shift because darkness no longer dominates, and from this point on, light begins to stretch further into our days. What was dormant starts to awaken.
And maybe, if you’re honest, your soul has been craving that kind of shift too.
“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him…” (Psalm 62:5–8)
Spring reminds us that waiting is never wasted.
God will, at times, intentionally lead us into a waiting season to:
- teach us patience,
- prepare us for growth,
- reveal His glory, or
- accomplish what we may not yet understand.
Think about a butterfly.
If you try to rush the process of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, you risk killing it. During metamorphosis, the caterpillar literally breaks down into an unrecognizable state—almost like liquid. It’s messy. It’s hidden and uncomfortable.
And from the outside, it looks like nothing is happening.
But everything is happening.
Transformation is taking place in the dark.
The Darkness of a Cocoon
Have you ever been in a place where it feels like you’ve been wrapped in silence… where prayers seem delayed… where you’re weary from the weight of waiting?
A personal cocoon.
But just like the earth in winter, what looks barren is often being prepared beneath the surface. The spring equinox reminds us that even when darkness feels long, it is not permanent. Light is increasing—even when you can’t yet see the full evidence of it.
God is still working in hidden places.
When you are in this space, remind yourself:
- He is your defense.
- He is your salvation.
- He is your strength.
- He is your refuge.
- And He does His deepest work in the dark.
When the butterfly is finally ready, it begins to push against the very thing that has been holding it.
And here’s the mystery: the struggle is necessary. With every push the butterfly makes, it strengthens its wings, and without that tension, it would never develop the strength to fly.
So what feels like resistance in your life may actually be preparation. Without even realizing it, you may be in your own season of metamorphosis—growing, stretching, becoming.
This is your in-between… your equinox moment where darkness and light meet… but light is about to win. Try not to despise the waiting period and don’t fear the tension because God works in every season.
Spring always follows winter. This is a new season.
From this day forward, our days will be filled with more light. There is hope ahead.
