“And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” Genesis 1:4-5

Imagine a world without light. Everything else that God made during creation week would go unnoticed and unappreciated. Life would be dull, dark, depressing and boring. With light comes clarity, joy, hope and alertness.

The same is true in regard to our spiritual existence. The Father of lights shines into our soul and the darkness is eradicated. We begin to see clearly the things that previously confused us. Our daily lives are infused with joy because we experience unconditional love. We are full of hope for the future, here on earth and in heaven eternally.

And the spiritual illumination we have received causes us to feel truly alive, excited and full of passion for the Kingdom of God. He has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for illuminating my life. Let your light shine through me to those around me, and may they be drawn to You.

“Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles he performs for people! (Psalm 66:5 from the Holy Bible, New Living Translation).
Awesome! This overused word is interwoven into conversations to describe anything above average. It is attached to artistic performances, gourmet foods, clothing accessories, websites, widgets, gadgets, and travels. The King James Version translates awesome as “terrible.” Imagine this scene. We’re looking over the splendid (awesome) Grand Canyon. I smile and shout out “Terrible!” You wouldn’t understand my reaction. Others nearby might wonder at my absence of appreciation. If I said “Awesome!” you would understand how impressed I am with God’s creation. That’s the intention of this modern translation when the Psalmist recognizes the magnificent miracles. Awesome! That word belongs to God.
Prayer : Lord, when I see Your creations and witness Your miracles, I am overwhelmed. All I can say is awesome! Amen.

Psalm 19:1-2 was written by David perhaps as he sat watching his sheep on a Judean hillside gazing at the handiwork of God displayed in the heavens. It was a picture perfect evening. David loved his job and wouldn’t have preferred doing anything else. He leaned back in the lush green grass to take a look at the stars. He was amazed all over again at his God and all that he was learning on-the-job. The Message version of the Bible gives these verses a poetic quality, “God’s glory is on tour in the skies. God-craft on exhibit across the horizon. Madame Day holds classes every morning. Professor Night lectures each evening.”

Prayer: Looking into the infinite sky tonight, I am reminded of how great You are God! What a beautiful display of Your greatness. I stand in awe of Your handiwork. Amen.
