“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?” (Matthew 18:12, New King James Version). Jesus often spoke in parables, stories or word pictures easy for His listeners to understand. Although the settings may not be as familiar in our day, the teachings are timeless. If anyone has ever gone missing from your community, especially a child, you remember the dedicated efforts to locate that person. Panic turned to organization, involvement and support. Volunteers forgot daily routine and plunged into the search, often leaving other family at home. Jesus told the story of the missing sheep as a reminder where the shepherd cares so much for a missing sheep, he leaves the flock safely behind to rescue one lost sheep. If you’ve gone missing, or wandered away, hang on. Rescue is on the way.

    If a family member, friend or someone from your community goes missing, a search gets underway. Panic turns to organized involvement and support. Volunteers forget daily routine and concentrate on the search. Jesus told the story of the missing sheep as a reminder that the ninety-nine are safe. He leaves the flock to search for one lost sheep. If you’ve wandered away from the Great Shepherd, rescue is on the way.
