“And He said to them, ‘Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.’ For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat,” (Mark 6:31, Holy Bible, New King James). Ever have times when you are inundated with responsibilities? People pressing too close or getting in your way? Jesus, speaking to His disciples, suggested they retreat away from the crowds. If you can’t take a isolated vacation, try a day trip, a stroll through a local park, a few minutes in backyard solitude. These will be retreats if you take Jesus with you.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I need time away from people in my everyday routine. Until then, I’m meditating on You and basking in Your presence for a refreshing retreat. Amen.

Moses asking God to journey with the huge entourage needs a new confirmation (verse 18). He says, “…show me Your glory.” God’s agrees but tells Moses “…no man shall see Me, and live” (verse 20). God shielded Moses and gave him a partial view of His glory. The magnificence of God hovers nearby, but you must first be willing to be hidden in a crevice, a protected place, before God eclipses you with His overwhelming presence.

Prayer: Lord, I’m waiting in the shadows, ready to experience Your magnificent presence. Amen.
