“Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.” Psalm 112:4-5

This week we are looking at the blessings that the Lord bestows upon those who fear Him and obey His commandments. Today we will consider our influence on the people around us. As we walk closely with the Lord and strive to live according to His teachings, we will earn the respect of those we mingle with each day.

Let us consider scriptures that speak about our reputation and influence:

Proverbs 22:1 “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”

Luke 6:45 “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”

Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Psalm 37:23 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”

Proverbs 3:3-4 “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.”

The way we act and the words we say reflect what is in our hearts. That is why it is so important to spend time in prayer and in reading and studying the Word of God. We will all face situations in our daily activities when we want to react in a way that may not be pleasing to the Lord. As we whisper a prayer to the Lord, He will give us the wisdom and guidance that we need.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for loving us and for the blessings you provide. Help us to be good examples to those we meet each day. May your love shine through us so that others will desire to know and serve you.
