“Who does great things, and unsearchable, marvelous things without number.” (Job 5:9, NKJV)
When I read the Bible, I am always amazed—although I shouldn’t be—with the perfection of God’s creation. Everything, from the way He tilted the earth to give us seasons and designed gravity to keep things in the right place, speaks of a God of precision. It was not luck or chance that created our universe. It was God, and everything He did was perfect.
“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16, ESV)
Then He created us—and His breath gave us life. How amazing is that!
“The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” (Job 33:4, ESV)
Just as God’s creative work in designing our world was not by chance or an accident, neither is it “just luck” that you have life. God, the meticulous Creator, had you in mind all along. Each person on this earth was designed by God and born with a purpose. God spoke to the prophet Jeremiah and told him, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5, ESV).
God formed—fashioned, designed—Jeremiah. He did the same for me and you. Ephesians 2:10 calls us “his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (ESV). Psalm 139:14 describes us as being “fearfully and wonderfully made.” In fact, we are created in the very image of God (Genesis 1:27).
Have you ever felt your life has no meaning or purpose? At such times, we must go to the Word. There we will discover that God created us with a divine purpose.
- We are created to glorify God (Psalm 63:3, Isaiah 43:7, I Corinthians 10:31).
- We are created to declare the praises of the One who called us out of darkness into light (I Peter 2:9).
- We are made to be a light to others (Matthew 5:16).
- We are created for good works (Ephesians 2:10, Colossians 1:10, II Timothy 3:17, Hebrews 13:21).
However, to fulfill these things in our life, God places within each of us unique abilities and desires to use in accomplishing His purpose. Do you recognize your God-given abilities and interests? What skills has He place in your life that can be used for His glory? Have you prayed for wisdom on how to use them to best fulfill His purpose?
I saw a statement once that said, “You were created on purpose, for a purpose, and with a purpose.” What an amazing thought. The Master Designer created a special life plan and purpose just for you. Now He wants you to use the gifts and talents He entrusted to you to bring glory to His name. Dedicate those gifts and talents back to Him.
“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31)
That, my friend, includes you! He loves you so much.
Lord, You created me and designed me to live in relationship with You, to worship You, and to be a witness of Your love to those around me. Help me to recognize and use the talents and gifts You have place in my life to fulfill Your divine purpose for me.
