In the children’s book, “The Little Engine that Could,”  the small train is chugging uphill,  chanting the entire way, “I think I can, I think I can.” Eventually, when it reached the top, the train said, “I KNEW I could!”

The premise is, of course, that with faith and confidence in your abilities, you can do things that seem impossible to tackle.

When the man whose son was possessed by a spirit came to Jesus, he stated, “If You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” The man had SOME faith, or he would never have come to Jesus with his need.

In today’s verse, Jesus gives a strange response to the man:

“If You can?” echoed Jesus. All things are possible to him who believes! (Mark 9:23 Berean Study Bible)

In other words, Jesus infers, “I’m ready to do the Him-Possible, but YOU must have the faith. YOU must believe! YOU must NOT doubt!”

Believing is having faith. Faith is confidence in God’s abilities to perform the Him-Possible! We bring our need to Him, and then PAUSE.

Our pause is not a time to doubt. It’s a time to strengthen the faith we already had. It’s going from, “I think He can, I think He can,” to “I KNEW He could!”

Does your need seem too big to get “over the mountain?” Does your ‘engine’ seem too small for the task? Then, stop trying to carry the load without faith! Say, “I KNOW He can! I KNOW He will!” Then, PAUSE before you climb that last stretch over the mountain of Impossibility and view the Him-Possible from the top!

SUSAN HOHMAN

Most of us know that Faith is an important component of seeing a miracle performed. But, sometimes, God asks us to step back and wait — PAUSE — for a specific purpose, in order to see our miracle come to fruition. The Pause for the Him-Possible is an innovative approach to a 30-day devotional with a daily call to action. In this book, Susan Hohman gives us pause to consider an avenue of faith and believing that we may not have considered before.
