With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” — Matthew 19:26 (NKJV)

On January 6, 2025, Jeriah Marco was born into a family that deeply loves God. As the beloved son of Mark and Jennifer Chavez, he began his life with hope, joy, and great expectation.

Jennifer’s pregnancy was healthy, and every medical test and ultrasound showed normal results. Like many parents, they eagerly anticipated meeting their child, trusting God for a safe delivery and a healthy baby.

But Jeriah’s birth brought an unexpected trial.

Shortly after delivery at Grey Nuns Hospital, Jeriah was transferred to the Stollery Hospital ICU, where he remained for over a month. What followed was a season marked by uncertainty and a deep, unwavering dependence on God.

Doctors conducted several tests, including ultrasounds and MRI scans. Eventually, specialists diagnosed Jeriah with a complete brain injury affecting both sides of his brain. The prognosis was heartbreaking: if he survived, he might never walk, eat normally, or even recognize his parents.

For any family, such news would be devastating.

During his first month, Jeriah faced severe complications—intense jaundice caused by liver issues, a blood clot extending toward his heart, and multiple apnea episodes where his breathing would stop.

At one point, doctors gently told the family that there was nothing more they could do. They prepared them for the possibility of loss, even offering keepsakes and discussing funeral arrangements.

It was a moment filled with grief and fear.

Yet in the middle of this pain, Mark and Jennifer made a defining choice: they chose faith over fear.

Instead of giving up hope, they leaned fully on God. Prayer requests were sent to pastors, relatives, and church families around the world.

The Bible reminds us: The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (James 5:16, NKJV).

And slowly, miraculously, things began to change.

Little by little, Jeriah’s showed signs of improvement. Tubes were removed. Medications were reduced. His body began to respond. What once seemed impossible started to look like a miracle unfolding.

The family held on to God’s promises: I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord” (Psalm 118:17, NKJV). Each new day became evidence that God was still working.

Along the way, God also provided in unexpected ways. Mark and Jennifer were granted time off from work, allowing them to remain by Jeriah’s side through hospital stays and appointments. God’s favor carried them through every step.

Today, Jeriah continues to bring joy to his family.

Like many children, Jeriah enjoys simple things—watching himself in the mirror, kicking and batting toys, listening to worship songs and Bible stories. He enjoys warm cuddles, familiar voices, car rides, and soothing baths.

Of course, he has his dislikes, too. Cold weather bothers him. Vaccines and blood tests are uncomfortable. Loud noises can startle him. And like most babies, he doesn’t enjoy wet diapers or being left alone.

Now one year and four months old, Jeriah still faces some developmental delays, and many questions remain about his future. But his family refuses to live in fear.

Instead, they choose to believe the report of the Lord.

Scripture reminds us, Before I formed you in the womb I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5, NKJV). Jeriah’s life has always been known by God. His story did not begin in the hospital room—God has had a purpose for him from the very beginning.

His journey is a powerful reminder that God still performs miracles today. Sometimes they happen instantly. Other times, they unfold slowly, step by step. But in every case, God remains faithful.

And Jeriah’s story is still being written.

His life continues to testify of prayer, perseverance, and the power of God. One day, his family believes, Jeriah himself will stand and declare the goodness of the Lord.

Until then, they hold tightly to this promise:

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20, NKJV).

Jeriah Marco is living proof that God hears prayer.

He is a reminder that faith can rise even in the darkest moments.

He is truly a miracle in the making.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being a God of miracles and for reminding us that nothing is impossible with You. Thank You for Your faithfulness in every season—for the seen and unseen ways You are working in our lives.

Lord, we lift up every person reading this today who may be facing uncertainty, fear, or hardship. Strengthen their faith. Help them to trust You even when the answers are not immediate. Remind them that You are near, that You care, and that You are still in control.

We pray for continued healing, strength, and purpose in Jeriah’s life. Let his story continue to bring glory to Your name and encouragement to others.

Teach us to hold on to Your promises, to believe Your Word above every circumstance, and to walk by faith each day.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
