“The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.” Habakkuk 3:19

“I have decided to follow Jesus;

I have decided to follow Jesus;

I have decided to follow Jesus;

No turning back, no turning back.”

A question on Google gave me this answer: “The deer, or hind, referenced here can also be called a gazelle, a graceful, swift, and sure-footed animal that can climb sheer rocky cliffs and never stumble or fall. In climbing, the deer can place her back feet exactly where her front feet were, thus needing only two sturdy footrests instead of four. She can scamper across what appears to be a vertical cliff, unafraid and undeterred by seemingly impassable terrain.”

This means that as a child of God, we can rise above any circumstance because He gives us the grace, inner strength, and courage to keep pressing on. As verse 1 of Habakkuk 3 tells us: “the Sovereign LORD is my strength”

Chapter 4 of Proverbs gives us some good advice as we walk this pathway of life:

  • Verse 14 “Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.”
  • Verse 23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
  • Verse 25 “Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.”
  • Verse 26 “Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.”
  • Verse 27 “Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

Following Jesus is a decision each one of us must make, determining that we are never going to turn back. If we listen closely to these instructions to guard our hearts, stay on safe paths, and not be sidetracked, we can trust the Lord to give us the strength that we need to overcome every circumstance and obstacle that life may put in our paths. No mountain is too tall, and no valley is too deep. He goes before us to guide us and walks behind us to protect us.

Prayer: Jesus, we thank you for your promise that you will never leave us nor forsake us and that we can safely trust you to guide us in every circumstance of our lives.
