Today I tended to my house plants. They looked healthy. But after examining them closely under a bright light it was obvious they needed pruning. They were full of debris. I cleaned them up. Then I gave them a gentle shower in the kitchen sink. This no doubt refreshed them.
Often, we are just like house plants. We need tending. We need to be examined closely under the bright light of Jesus’ presence. We need Jesus, the Master Gardener to remove the debris in our lives. To shower us gently in the Holy Spirit! We need Him to refresh us.
Prayer: Psalm 42:1-2 from the Amplified Bible, “…..my soul pants and longs for You, O God. My inner self thirsts for God, the living God….” O God, remove anything in me that hinders my spiritual growth. My inner self wants to be close to You. Refresh me today.

Luke 6:20-23 from the Amplified Bible, “Jesus said, ‘Blessed (happy with life-joy and ….. God’s favor) are you who hunger…for you shall be filled…Blessed (happy with life-joy and God’s favor) are you who weep and sob…for you shall laugh…”</ul>

Are you poor? Jesus said He’ll give you His kingdom. Are you hungry? Jesus said He’ll feed you. Are you sad? Jesus said he’d make you happy. Whatever your problem, Jesus will help you. Do you know Jesus? He knows you. Have you forgotten Him? He’ll never forget you. He’s waiting for you to call out to Him. It’s easy. Just say “Jesus”.
Prayer: Jesus, I want to know You. Jesus, I love You. Jesus, I need _________ right now. Please provide for me in a way that I will know for certain it came from You! I believe You will. Thank-you Jesus, You are the best!

Joshua 9:14 from the Holy Bible, King James Version, “Then the men of Israel took some of their provisions; but they did not ask counsel of the Lord.” The men of Israel unknowingly did business with deceitful men. Had they asked God’s opinion first, He would have warned them. But they didn’t ask and they suffered for it.
I wonder how much easier life would be if we all learned to ask God’s opinion first.
Think about it. God is everywhere. He sees everything. He knows everything. He loves us. He created us. He wants what’s best for us. Doesn’t it make sense to ask God what He thinks about a matter before choosing to do it?
The men of Israel learned their lesson. The next time they needed to make a decision they asked God’s opinion, and they prevailed!
Prayer: God, teach me to ask your opinion before making important decisions. Amen.

“You are what you eat from your head down to your feet.” This popular slogan taught that a person’s physical health was determined by what they ate.
“You are what you say, so guard your mouth today” could have been Jesus’ slogan. READ: Matthew 15:11 from the Amplified Bible, “It is not what goes into the mouth of a man that makes him unclean and defiled. It’s what comes out of his mouth; this makes him unclean and defiles him.” Jesus was teaching that a person’s spiritual health was determined by what they said.
Do you gossip or criticize others? Take the “Mouth Check Challenge!” See if you can go an entire day with only speaking words of kindness and encouragement. The easier it is for you to speak positive, uplifting words the healthier your spirit is.
Prayer: Jesus, forgive me for using negative words. Help me be spiritually healthy by talking positive. Amen.

“To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called tress of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:3 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible). As a child I remember laying out what I would wear to school the next day. By doing so it made the process easier the next morning. If I got up late I was prepared and knew ahead of time what to put on. As I dress each day and put on my spiritual armor I have added the garment of praise. It helps my day go better. When I put on this garment I find praising God and bringing Him glory almost comes naturally. In the natural what you put on can be comfortable or binding. I choose not to be bogged down with the spirit of heaviness but put on the garment of praise which is so much more comfortable. It makes everything easier. Those around me benefit when I choose to praise. My attitude and spirit are lighter. Get rid of that heavy garment and put on the garment of praise! By doing so, you will glorify God. What have you chosen to wear today? I choose the garment of praise. It’s light and carefree.
Prayer: Lord, I’m so glad You offered me the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. So much of this life is heavy duty and can wear on my nerves; but when I’m praising You everything just goes better with praise!

“And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.” (Joshua 6:10 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible.) As our pastor was preaching from this passage this week-end the phrase I often told my children when they were talking too much came to mind; zip your lip. We are a people of chatter. If you don’t believe it see how many cell phones that are being used at the mall, in the grocery stores, the post office and even the doctor’s offices. It has gotten so bad that now signs are posted in the doctor’s offices to turn off your cell phone. The post office apparently has had similar problems and posted a sign to discontinue your conversation on cell phones before going to the counter. The Lord gave instructions to Joshua with a similar request. They were instructed to march around the walls of Jericho once a day for six day and on the seventh day to march seven times around. They were not to speak at all as they marched. I’m sure that was probably harder than marching. When we talk the enemy knows what we’re thinking if he happens to be listening. Our mood is picked up by what we say. Today, let’s try talking less and marching on around the walls that are hindrances in our lives.
Dear Lord, help me learn that You don’t need my input to see walls broken down. Help me zip my lip and let You perform miracles in my life. You are an all sufficient God who is able to destroy the barriers that I am facing even today. Amen!

Why is it so difficult to say those words, “I’m sorry. Forgive me.” Perhaps just as difficult to say is a sincere, “I forgive you.” None of us goes through life without at some point being on both sides of the situation. Sometimes we are the one hurt; other times we are the offender. Hurts and wrongs alter relationships, sometimes forever, unless we learn how to build a bridge of forgiveness to the other person.

“Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” (Psalm 37:4 in the King James Version of the Holy Bible). Ashley was driving home with her two small children and noticed the sky was full of stars. She commented to her two-year-old daughter, Briley that she could wish upon a star whatever she wanted. They had gone to church earlier and met the young people and her parents at a pizza place afterwards. The little girl knew immediately what she wished and verbalized it by saying, “I wish my Daddy was here to eat pizza with me.” Her Daddy is a soldier in Afghanistan and the child was missing him. I believe that God heard the desires of Briley’s heart and will bring her Daddy home safe to his praying family. Ashley is trying to make the best of a bad situation by taking her kids to church while here husband is away. When we put the Lord first He takes care of our desires. Maybe you have a loved one in the war; God sees the desires of your heart. Delight in the Lord and He will bring it to pass.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I put You first and I believe that You will give me the desires of my heart. Grant protection for our troops and bring them home safely to their families. We will give You all the praise and glory! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
