“You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways . . . You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.” (Psalm 139:3, 5-6, ESV)
Our relationship with God is an amazing thing. The Creator of everything knows my name, my thoughts, and where I am at this exact moment. He even knows the number of hairs on my head (Matthew 10:30). My God knows me and cares about me. As David declares in Psalm 139, that knowledge is so wonderful I cannot fully comprehend it.
I AM BLESSED
As I meditated on how amazing God is to me, I began listing some of the blessings I receive from Him each day. I could write so much more, but below are a few of the things that came to mind. Each of these will apply to you as well.
- God loves me unconditionally.
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8, ESV). - God protects me and is my place of safety.
“For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.” (Psalm 61:3, ESV). - God is completely trustworthy and keeps His promises.
“God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” (Numbers 23:19, ESV). - God gives me fresh mercy each day. It never ends.
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23, ESV). - God cares about my future.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11, ESV).
The amazing thing is we do not receive these blessings because we have earned them or are worthy of them. God freely gives them to us because He loves us so deeply. The depth of His love goes beyond our human comprehension.
“In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (I John 4:10, ESV)
QUALITIES OF A RELATIONSHIP
A strong relationship requires the involvement of both parties. It cannot be one sided. So, what does it take to make that relationship happen? The short answer is commitment and work. This also includes our relationship with the Lord. We cannot expect Him to do all the giving while we do all the receiving. That’s not how relationship works.
Here are just a few of the qualities that keep a relationship strong. These are things that I can return to the Lord that show I am just as committed to Him as He is to me.

SURROUNDED
Each day we are surrounded by the goodness of God. Psalm 139 says that we am hemmed in by His love and protection. He is both before us and behind us. Anything that comes at us must go through Him first. We are safe and secure in His love. We have an amazing God.
