“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:19, KJV
“I need a new car.”
At least, that’s what everyone kept trying to convince me.
When your car is nearly two decades old, held together with adhesives not made for automobiles and greets every ignition with a new noise or error code, people tend to have opinions. Considering the condition and the many miles I drive each week, I finally had to admit they were right. It was time for me to invest in a more reliable vehicle.
“I need more income.”
At least, that’s what I kept trying to convince myself.
I began saving money, hoping to buy a used car and avoid taking on a car payment. But my calculations quickly revealed that it would take me years to save enough. I knew I needed God to intervene, so I began praying with bold faith, asking Him to work a miracle.
Little did I know, He was already working.
Less than two weeks later, I was handed the keys to a new car I hadn’t paid a penny for. It had new tires, maintenance completed under the hood, a fresh oil change, and a full tank of gas.
A total upgrade.
Paid. In. Full.
God answers prayers, and He often works through people.
In that moment, God reminded me of something I needed to understand: my employer was not my provider. He was.
My income might be the means through which my needs are ordinarily met, but my source is God Himself. He is not limited by my paycheck, my savings account, or my calculations. When I couldn’t see a way forward, He was already making a way.
He proved me wrong.
He is still a miracle-worker.
He never fails.
When We See No Way Forward
Planning and wise stewardship have their place. But we must remember that our resources are not our source.
“Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear.”– Isaiah 59:1, ESV
We may not know how He will answer or when the answer will come, but we can trust His character even when we cannot see the solution.
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”– Isaiah 43:19, ESV
Seek the Provider, Not Just the Provision
The greatest lesson isn’t simply that God gave me a car. It’s that He reminded me who He is.
He is my Provider.
He hears my prayers. He knows my needs. He can make a way where I cannot see one.
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19, KJV
When the need feels bigger than your resources, don’t let your calculations have the final word. Pray. Trust. Be faithful with what is in your hands, and leave room for God to work in ways you may never have imagined.
“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink? or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”– Matthew 6:31-33, ESV
You may not know how God will provide, but you can know the One who holds your provision in His hands.
And when you look at your circumstances and wonder how things could possibly change, remember:
I started to believe “I need a new car,” which led to thinking “I need more income.”
But God.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being my Provider. Forgive me for the times I focused so much on my limitations that I forgot Your power and faithfulness. Help me bring my needs to You in prayer, trust You while I wait, and remain faithful with what You have placed in my hands. Open my eyes to recognize Your provision, even when it comes in unexpected ways. In Jesus name, amen.
