“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Where do they come from? You walk into your bedroom and see something dark and shadowy in the corner that wasn’t there before. Time to get the broom, wrap a dust cloth around it, and carefully wipe the edges of the ceiling and down the corners of the room. Might as well check the rest of the house as well, there are sure to be more.

Just like we check our rooms for cobwebs, we need to check our hearts and minds and see if there are unwanted thoughts and feelings that need to be looked after.

II Corinthians 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

Have you ever been deep in thought, and suddenly realized just where your mind has traveled? Where did those thoughts come from? You begin to backtrack and realize that you need to do some house cleaning. It could be something that happened recently that has reminded you of old hurts that you thought were long forgotten. But our minds have a way of bringing these things up and causing us to re-live what happened a long time ago. We need to ask the Lord to cleanse us anew.

Or, you are going through a time of testing and the enemy has whispered in your ear that the Lord doesn’t really care about you. Doubt and despair are cobwebs that we need to sweep out of our minds. The best way is to find scriptures that have encouraged us in the past and stand firm upon them.

Other things that may be messing up our lives are negative thoughts, loneliness, self-pity, and discouragement. We know that these are things that keep us from being all that the Lord wants us to be. Let the Holy Spirit sweep through your soul and remove all those feelings. He saved us, and He can keep us.

Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”

Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus, that you know our hearts even better than we do. Search us today, let your Holy Spirit shine anew in our hearts, show us the cobwebs, and make us what you want us to be.
