“Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.” Psalm 68:19

Count your blessings, name then one by one;

Count your blessings, see what God hath done;

Count your blessings, name them one by one;

Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.

A friend of mine recently shared with me some of the many ways she had been blessed in the past year. It had been a difficult year for her because of the loss of her husband, but she had made up her mind to find ways she could bless others. She started keeping two lists. First, were ways she was able to reach out to others, things like taking a pot of soup to a shut-in or inviting someone to come to her house for lunch. Then, she listed the blessings that she had received. There were small things on there as well like someone paying for her lunch, or a repair person doing a small job for her. As the year progressed, it was amazing how the blessings the Lord had bestowed on her totaled financially, and she realized how much more she had received than what she gave. I have her permission to share this, hoping it will be an incentive for someone else.

We cannot outgive the Lord. Malachi 3:10 tells us: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

I have proven this scripture over and over throughout the years. There were times when we were raising our family, that we struggled financially, but we were always faithful to pay our tithes first. And the Lord never let us down, He always provided for our needs. Now as a senior on a pension, the first thing I do is pay my tithes to the church. Then I ask the Lord to show me what He would want me to give beyond my tithe. God has rewarded me in so many ways, not just in financial blessings, but in other ways as well. I am blessed beyond measure.

Proverbs 28:20 “A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.”

Has God blessed you this past year? Why not take some time to write down all the blessings that you have received? And make plans for the year ahead to find ways that you can bless others. The more you bless others, the more God will bless you.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord Jesus, for all the blessings that you have bestowed upon us. Lead us by your Spirit to opportunities to be a blessing to others.
