“Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.” Psalm 73:25-26

When we are young, sometimes we do not really appreciate what it means to have God always with us, looking after us, and meeting our needs. But I have found the older I get, the more I rely upon the Lord for strength and guidance every day. When my body does not allow me to function the way I used to, and I get tired easily, I realize that I can still be strong in heart and spirit because the Lord is with me.

The NLT renders verse 26 like this: “My health may fail and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.”

Though we may not be able to participate in a lot of things we used to do, there are still areas where the Lord can use us. We can pray and intercede on behalf of others. We can speak words of encouragement to those we know are going through testing. We can be an example to the young people in the church in our faithfulness in worship and praise. We can be kind to others, compassionate to those who are hurting, and show love to all with whom we come in contact.

God has been so faithful to us, let us remain faithful to Him until He calls us home.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for your faithfulness, that you are the strength of our hearts, and that you will never leave us nor forsake us. Help us to be faithful to you every day.
