“Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof. Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following. For this God is our God forever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.” Psalm 48:12-14
Life is uncertain. None of us knows what tomorrow holds. Over the past few months, there have been many friends and acquaintances in my age group who have gone home to be with the Lord. So, I thank the Lord every morning for the day that He has given me. I have gone past the time that Moses wrote about in Psalm 90:10 “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.”
In Psalm 48, the psalmist describes the glory and beauty of Zion, the city of the great king. He describes the towers, the bulwarks, and the beautiful palaces. Zion represents the church of Jesus Christ. What a privilege it is to know the Great King and be part of His kingdom!
Consider These Blessings We Enjoy
- He loved us before we were born.
- He paid the price for our redemption.
- He hears every prayer we pray.
- His Holy Spirit guides our steps each day.
- He promised never to leave nor forsake us.
- He still loves us when we fail and guides us gently back to the right path.
- He supplies our every need.
- He gave us His Word to be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.
- He provided pastors and teachers to encourage us.
- He is preparing a place for us where we will spend eternity with Him.
When we meditate on these things our hearts turn to praise and worship. I love the way the Psalmist ends the Psalm: “For this God is our God forever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.”
Death holds no fear for those who love the Lord because we know that we will just pass through the gate into His eternal presence. Psalm 49:15 “But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me.”
I do not know what tomorrow holds, but I know Who holds tomorrow. So, I walk each day trusting that my time is in His hands.” Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” Titus 2:13
