“And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath compassion on thee. And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.” Mark 5:18-20.

This man’s life was changed in a moment. At the spoken, authoritative word of Jesus, every devil left this man’s body. He was naked, but he is now fully clothed. He was bound and now he is free.

This man, who lived a debased life, is now delivered. He begins to worship and then implores Jesus to join Him on His mission. He wants to go where He goes and learn at Jesus’ feet. He wants to become a life-long disciple.

When Jesus performed miracles at the beginning of his ministry, he usually told the person to keep it to himself and not tell anyone. However, we read Jesus telling this man to go home and to publish (testify, declare, proclaim) the miracle Jesus performed in his life, and to share how compassionate His savior is.

Jesus told the Decapolis man, your life will have more of an impact away from me, than staying with me. Jesus told him to testify and to tell everyone what happened in his life. This man did just that. The next time we read about Jesus returning to the coast of Decapolis, there was a multitude willing to follow Jesus and the miracle of feeding 4,000 people took place (Mark 7:31-8:1-9).

There is power in our testimony. You may only be one person, but you can make an eternal difference in many lives. Share what the Lord has done in your life with someone today. You never know whose life can be changed by your testimony.

Some Ways On How To Be A Witness:

  • Share your testimony.
  • If you’re in a check-out line, say, “God, bless you,” to the cashier.
  • Share the gospel and the love of God.
  • If someone at work, a stranger in the store, or a friend who is a non-believer begins to share a problem in their life ask, “do you mind if I pray with you about this situation right now?” Take them gently be the hand (if it’s appropriate) and pray a sincere prayer.
  • Invite someone to dinner at your home for wholesome fellowship.
  • If you know someone is sick, ask to pray with them.
  • If someone needs groceries, go to the store and leave food on their doorstep.

Let me know more ways in the comments below on how to be a witness. What have you done, or what has someone done for you that has made a huge impact?

  1. Hi Angela. Beautiful writing. Keep it up! Pray for lost souls! Pray for Prodigals! Going thru a major mess with a friend’s daughter. I have been able to witness to her, and her children. They have seen me pray, and cry out to God, on their behalf. TGBTG, bc it was brought about by HIM, evidently! Yet, the enemy got his foot in a crevice. Will you pls pray for God to work it out? It involves my own daughter who I’ve been praying for, similar! I don’t want my daughter to be bitter with my friends bc of the enemy trying to start something! The whole thing is so sad, and even scary. More importantly, lost souls, dabbing in wrong things. 🙏 for EVERY one involved in this situation! Ty. The whole ordeal devastated me. Pray for God to give me direction in MY life, and for me to DO “HIS” will. In conclusion, still, I tried to plant the right seed in the hearts of children, and hurting ppl. May it take root and grow, in Jesus name! 🙌 Happy writing for the Lord! 😊
